This course details the principles of the Pilates method and how these have evolved with our growing knowledge of human movement. You will learn how to use Pilates in a rehab setting, with a focus on clinical reasoning and critical thinking.

You will learn comprehensive Mat, Reformer, Trapeze Table and Wunda Chair repertoire, with an emphasis on the clinical application of these exercises.

Through clinical scenarios, you will learn indications, progressions, modifications and contraindications to many Pilates exercises. You will be able to adapt exercises and the Pilates equipment to enhance patient rehabilitation, flexing your clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills.

The main course objectives are:

  • To facilitate your understanding of functional anatomical connections for movement.
  • To improve your confidence with movement analysis.
  • To give you a broad knowledge of Pilates equipment repertoire, including how to appropriately choose exercises for your patient population(s).
  • To give you confidence to safely use Pilates exercises to support patient rehabilitation.
  • To improve your teaching and movement cueing skills.
  • To facilitate the integration of your manual therapy skills within a movement framework.

This course is delivered over five modules, with pre-reading, online lectures, clinical reasoning check-ins, and case studies to support your learning. Additionally, you will be required to participate in online discussions, and complete several teaching, observation, and personal practice hours.

The complete course is 200 hours, with additional time required for assignments and self-directed learning.

On completion of the course, you will have access to a video library of all repertoire covered in the training.
